Cain was the first-born son of Adam and Eve. He and his little brother (Abel) both brought an offering to God, but Cain’s offering did not please God (while Abel’s offering did).
Cain became sad over this and it eventually turned to anger and jealousy directed at Abel. His rage led him to evil acts against his brother including his murder.
Apparently, Cain’s offering was not sincere. God allowed Cain to reframe his anger and make a new offering to make things right. Instead Cain gave in to his anger. Perhaps knowing the truth about his first offering is what frustrated him so much and led him to do evil. Finally he attacked and overpowered his brother.
Cain was given a clear path by God but chose evil. He let his suffering from all of his anger and jealousy control him and became capable of doing terrible evil.
We can easily learn from this example that we can make choices after we mess up somewhere. As people we can choose to try to make things right or we can wallow in our own suffering. We see the outcome when we select the choice to do evil to people.
Evil People in the Bible Part 1 Why Are People Evil?
Delilah was a self-supportive woman (and therefore likely a widow). The bible does not reveal her actual lineage.
Delilah was known for succumbing to greed and committing evil acts upon Sampson – a chosen person of God who was granted great leadership ability and great personal strength.
Sampson was betrayed by his wife, and at some point after this Delilah became an object of Sampson’s desire. Knowing this, Sampson’s enemies approached Delilah and offered her great sums of silver to find his weakness. Delilah gave into her greed and agreed to double cross Sampson.
Delilah asked Sampson every day what his weakness was but Sampson would only tell her lies to protect himself. Finally, she was able to manipulate him into giving away the secret to his great strength. She lulled him to sleep and called in an accomplice to cut Sampson’s hair – which was his strength.
Sampson became weak and was captured. Eventually, his hair grew back long enough for him to sacrifice himself and take down a great number of his enemy.
Delilah became able to commit evil when she gave into the suffering of her own greed.
